Representative Hochul Attends Governor Cuomo’s $5,000 Plate Fundraiser – Occupy Buffalo

Sun, 2012-05-06 20:25

BTW; as Kathy Hochul and Governor Cuomo were eating $5,000 plates of food, at the same time directly across the street just feet away, at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library on Ellicott St., scores of people of all colours and ages were lined up on the sidewalk to receive free soup and sandwiches from the nightly Hearts for the Homeless food truck, serving food to those in need.

At a generous $5.00 per meal, the cost of Kathy Hochul’s dinner could have fed 1,000 people.

Sunday April 22nd, Occupy Buffalo Protesters Arrested

Mon, 2012-04-23 17:44

Yesterday afternoon outside Hancock Air National Guard base in New York, approximately 28 of 150 protesters from Occupy Buffalo, the WNY Peace Center, and other peaceful local organizations were arrested. They’re now absurdly charged by Onondaga County Sheriffs with failing to obtain a Town of DeWitt permit, while exercising their Constitutional Right to protest against the ever increasing use of murderous Reaper Drones at home and abroad by the currently corporatized U.S. government. Some estimates claim that cowardly drone strikes may kill 10 or so civilians for every militant killed, others say many of those killed are children. Drone strikes have increased substantially under the Presidency of Barack Obama and now number in the 1,000′s.

Most of the drone protesters arrested Sunday were later released the same day on appearance tickets, and are now scheduled to be in the Town of DeWitt Court later on mixed dates. Several protesters had cell phones and video equipment used to film the protest confiscated that has not yet been returned after being released from detainment.

The letter read by protesters addressed to the Hancock Air National Guard base read:
“By giving material support to the drone program, you as individuals are violating the Constitution, dishonoring your oath, and committing war crimes. We charge the chain of command, from President Barack Obama, to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, to Commander Colonel Greg Semmel, to every drone crew, to every service member supporting or defending these illegal actions, with the following crimes: extrajudicial killings, violation of due process, wars of aggression, violation of national sovereignty, and the killing of innocent civilians.”

“We’re trying just any way we know how to do the best we can for non-violence. I believe in nonviolence that’s what we’re working for,” said protester Victoria Ross ♥

April 6th, N.Y. Sen. Grisanti With Occupy Buffalo On 5 Bills for Hydrofracking NYS

Thu, 2012-04-19 16:18

Senator Grasanti, WHY WOULD WE NEED 5 BILLS WHEN WE CAN JUST BAN ALL HYDROFRACKING ACTIVITY?
Senator Mark Grisanti proposes five Bills on hydrofracking introducing legislation that he’d like to get signed into law. Unedited in it’s entirety.

High volume hydrofracking is the highly dangerous process where millions of gallons of water and 600-700 chemicals, many being known carcinogens, are pumped under extremely high pressure to fracture shale rock. This releases natural gas. The millions of gallons of waste water fluid used is left polluted by chemicals and returned to our fresh drinking water supply. There are alternatives to gas, but there are no alternatives to water! Put the safety of our water before profits of the oil and gas industry!

Occupy Buffalo with other concerned citizens, with Senator Mark Grisanti on hydrofracking in NYS. This was recorded noon April 6th, 2012.

LOCATION CHANGE for ECIDA (Erie County Industrial Development Agency) Meeting

Fri, 2012-04-13 20:29

The ECIDA Meeting on Monday, April 16th at 9am is now taking place in the Main Auditorium of Buffalo and Erie County’s Central Library (across the street from Lafayette Square.)

Slumlord Carl Paladino has a net worth of $150 million, and yet he wants more taxpayer money so he can make a profit by turning his dilapidated Greystone Manor into an upscale apartment building that none of us could ever afford to live in. Moreover, once the renovations are done, no further jobs will be created from this endeavor. It is all about Paladino making a profit at the taxpayers’ expense.

If you want to know more about where your taxes go, then come to this meeting and find out. Occupy the economy!

Also, please be aware that armed security may be present at this meeting. This is the reality in which we live. They try to instill fear in us with the threat of violence. But it will not deter us from pursuing truth and justice.

Anti-Fracking Protest at Buffalo State College

Thu, 2012-04-12 19:01

By Amanda Gabryszak:

“Buffalo State College is hosting a protest against SUNY’s recent contract with EnergyMark. The contract will provide five SUNY schools with hydraulically fractured gas for three years. The deal totaled over $22 million dollars, and the schools include Buffalo State College, UB, Fredonia, Alfred State, and the New York College of Ceramics at Alfred State. The protest is scheduled to take place on April 19th on the Buffalo State College Campus, from 12:15-1:30 pm. Weather permitting, demonstrators will gather between Butler Library and Campbell Student Union. Should it rain, they plan to move the protest beneath the archway of Cleveland Hall.

“Hydraulic-fracturing, or hydro-fracking as it is more commonly called is a controversial method of obtaining natural gas from shale deposits. Students involved in the protest are concerned about the consequences of fracking, and disappointed that the SUNY seems to support it.”
